Luxury Home Bars

In our previous Journal we delved into how the last 12 months might shape our interior choices of the future 12. One of the design trends we identified was home bars. The art of cocktail hour at home has returned with gusto during the various lockdowns, prompting a rise in having a dedicated space for this important activity.

Whilst we hope to be going out to our favourite establishment again soon, there is also a great pleasure in mixing a well-made cocktail to conclude the working day or having the space to entertain friends in a dedicated bar area (when we can!). We are currently designing private homes with both fully integrated ‘wet-bars’ and bespoke ‘dry-bars’ or cocktail cabinets.

Wet Bars

A fully integrated bar is a great opportunity to add some drama to a room within your home, exploring lighting, finishes and colours that may be overpowering for example a reception room.

A home bar can be a truly bespoke experience. Designed in collaboration with the clients tastes – both aesthetically and to perfectly accommodate the mixing of their tipple of choice! The CGI’s above are from a project on the Wentworth Estate we are currently working on. These show our design process, working closely with the client, who entertains regularly. We moved from an oval design to the final L-shape to maximise the seating for his guests.

Dry Bards

For our central London projects where space doesn’t allow for a dedicated room, but clients are still interested in the design trend for a home bar, we work on ways to incorporate beautiful drinks cabinets and wine storage into reception rooms and kitchens.

We’ve included some examples of our favourite freestanding cabinets which fit the bill for the home bar design trend; the Corinthia Cabinet and Galaxy Drinks Cabinet from Davidson. The Corinthia Cabinet is a very elegant sideboard, but fully stocked with beautiful glassware, luxury home bar accessories and your drink of choice would be a lovely addition.

Wine Bars

We also recently completed a wine bar area in a large open plan kitchen for a client in Hampshire (images below and full portfolio here). The exposed brick, spinal wall in our clients’ open plan Kitchen/Dining area provides a perfect backdrop to the grey oak wine display and solid, cast concrete worktops.

The double sets of metal doors lead from the Entrance Hall and provide a sense of grandeur in this industrial-chic, high end home.

We are very fortunate to have a wealth of knowledge and experience in joinery design, we really look forward to the design trend for home bars being here to stay for a while so we can continue to encourage our clients to have fun with this type of space!
