Matthews Rea designs interiors for restaurants, hotels, spas and treatment rooms. Hospitality work sits alongside our residential practice, and it draws on the same attention to detail, with the added discipline that a commercial space has to earn its keep every day it is open.

Designing Spaces That Have to Perform
A hospitality interior carries a commercial burden a private home does not. It has to hold up to constant use, meet regulations, work for the staff who operate in it daily, and still give guests a reason to choose it over somewhere else. Beautiful and impractical is a failure in this sector.
We design with that in mind from the outset. Circulation, acoustics, lighting levels through the day and into the evening, durability of finishes, and the operational realities of service are all considered alongside the look and feel of the space.

Our Hospitality Experience
Our completed hospitality projects include The Ocean Rooms Beauty at Ocean Village Marina in Southampton, a follow-on scheme at Ocean Rooms, and a restaurant on the Isle of Wight.
Each was delivered from concept through to completion, covering interior architecture, technical drawings, bespoke joinery, custom furniture and the full specification of furniture, fixtures and equipment.

Working With Operators and Owners
We are used to working alongside operators, architects and contractors, and to the programme pressures that come with a launch date. Where a scheme is phased, or where a venue needs to keep trading through part of the work, we plan the design around that rather than treating it as an afterthought.
Where We Work
The studio is based in Cobham, Surrey, and we take hospitality commissions across Surrey, Hampshire, London and the south coast, as well as further afield where a project suits us.
