Matthews Rea designs luxury interiors for hotels, restaurants, wellness resorts, spas and treatment rooms, in the UK and internationally. Hospitality work sits alongside our super-prime residential practice and draws on the same attention to detail, with the added discipline that a commercial space has to earn its keep every day it is open.
Designing Spaces That Have to Perform
A hospitality interior carries a commercial burden a private home does not. It must hold up to constant use, meet regulations and brand standards, work for the staff who operate it daily, and still give guests a reason to choose it over somewhere else. Beautiful and impractical is a failure in this sector.
We design with that in mind from the outset. Circulation, acoustics, lighting through the day and into the evening, durability of finishes, and the operational realities of service are all considered alongside the look and feel of the space.

Our Hospitality Experience
Our recent hospitality work includes the refurbishment of Coopers Cut, a steakhouse restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel at Ten Trinity Square, London, and The Ocean Rooms Beauty at Ocean Village Marina in Southampton, along with its sister site in Lymington, which opened in 2026.
We have also worked closely with the exclusive Wentworth Club in Surrey. We refurbished its private guest rooms for golf members and, most recently, redesigned the tennis club as a health and country club, due to reopen in 2027, covering the beauty spa, pool, cafe, gym, breakout areas, Pilates studio, creche and changing rooms, working collaboratively with the appointed architect.
Our work spans interior architecture, technical drawings, bespoke joinery, custom furniture and the full specification of furniture, fixtures and equipment.
Beyond the interior itself, we often help shape the wider guest experience, assisting with initial branding concepts and OS&E specification through to staff uniforms.

Experience Behind the Studio
Creative Director Louise Rea brings over 25 years in luxury hospitality and residential interiors. Before joining Lauren at Matthews Rea, she was Design Manager at Linley, where she led the design and delivery of the Four Seasons Serviced Residences and event spaces at Ten Trinity Square. Earlier in her career she worked on projects for Marriott, InterContinental, Accor and Hilton.
Our Design Manager, Heather Mclillan, has extensive experience in hospitality design, including work with the Marriott group on substantial London projects, the design of the luxury yacht Ilma for Ritz-Carlton, and the refurbishment of Fairmont St Andrews.
Working With Operators and Owners
We work alongside operators, brand teams, owners, architects and contractors, and we understand the programme pressures that come with a launch date. Where a scheme is phased, or a venue needs to keep trading through the works, we plan the design around that from the start rather than treating it as an afterthought.
Spa and Wellness
For spas, treatment rooms and wellness-led hospitality, we can work with our sister company, The Wellness Design Group, which brings science-backed wellness thinking into the design. The result is a space that looks the part and is built around how guests actually feel in it.
Where We Work
We take on hospitality projects internationally, including in the Middle East, America and Africa, as well as across London, Surrey, Hampshire and the home counties. The studio is based in Cobham, Surrey.
