Matthews Rea is an interior design studio on Portsmouth Road in Cobham, about fifteen minutes from Virginia Water. We work across the Wentworth Estate, Virginia Water and the surrounding private roads, and our portfolio includes a substantial mansion house in the area.
Designing for Virginia Water Houses
Houses here are large, often newly built or heavily remodelled, and usually set in generous private grounds. That scale changes how a scheme has to be planned. Rooms need to hold their proportions when they are twice the size of a normal reception room, and a palette that works in a cottage will look thin across a double height hall.
Our work in the area has tended towards formal classical interiors: full height wall panelling, marble floors laid in large format slabs, symmetrical arrangements around a fireplace, and lighting designed as a scheme rather than fitting by fitting. The restraint is deliberate. When the architecture is this generous, it does not need decorating over.
What We Do
We work from first concept through to installation. That covers interior architecture and technical drawings, space planning, bespoke joinery and custom furniture design, lighting and electrical layouts, and the full specification and procurement of furniture, fixtures and equipment. On larger houses we also handle site supervision alongside the main contractor.
Many Virginia Water projects run alongside a building programme, so we are used to working to an architect and contractor timetable rather than arriving once the shell is finished.
